One should know how to identify a plant in the case that they are stuck in a situation where they need the plant, either as a food or for medicinal purposes. It is important to know a multitude of plants as seasons change, and different plants grow in different biomes. The season one is traveling in is prudent due to the flowering times of plants, and fruits they may produce. It is significant to have a relationship with the local people about their plant habitats as one would not want to disturb a culturally important area of flora, or accidentally offend the people. If I were found without traditional medicines, I would trust a credible reference text on local flora to treat illness or disease, as if the text were credible, then it would have research to back up its instructions on medicinal herbs.
